Akeringa Cabernet
We are pleased to release our first Flagship Cabernet sauvignon from our home block in Willunga, McLaren Vale. Named ‘Akeringa’ in honour of the winery originally built on and associated with our now estate vineyard, this 2018 Cabernet sauvignon has been carefully nurtured in 100% new French oak.
Ned Goodwin MW - Australian Wine Companion 95/100
Willunga fruit from the former Akeringa estate. An extension of the '17 trial of 100% new oak that commenced with the La Grenouille cuvée. Matured for 2 years in (100% new) extra-tight-grained Cadus hogsheads. Fermented in open-top vessels on skins left dry. The skins serve as a conduit for pithy, nourishing, fine-grained tannins. Cassis, vanilla, bouquet garni, black cherry, kirsch and pencil lead. Savoury, saline and energetic. A beautifully made wine that is textural, impeccably detailed and undeniably salubrious. Plenty in the tank.
Ralph Kyte-Powell - The Real Review 95/100
A very deep, dense wine, with abundant personality and elegant style. Blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis liqueur, sandalwood and cedar aromas mark a fresh, but deeply concentrated nose. It has lovely balance, combining ripe cabernet flavours with varietal austerity in a seamless, flowing mouthful. There seems to be quite a lot of oak but the fruit has swallowed it up, and superfine tannins build grip across the palate in harmony with the sumptuous fruit, auguring well for bottle age. 16 APR 2021
