2023 Hewitson Barossa Valley Miss Harry GSM

This week for Wine Back Wednesday, I came across a 2023 @hewitsonwines "Miss Harry" Barossa Valley Grenache (35%), Shiraz (33%), Mourvèdre(32%).
After studying at Roseworthy Ag College, Dean Hewitson cut his teeth working at Petaluma with Brian Croser, then completed a Masters at UC Davis. A few years later, the @hewitsonwines brand emerged. Dean is making some very solid wines. Based in the Barossa Valley, the pinnacle of the portfolio includes the Old Garden Mourvèdre (made from probably the oldest Mourvèdre vines in the world - planted by Friedrich Koch in 1853 in Rowland Flat) and the Monopole Shiraz, where the fruit comes from vines that were struck from budwood from a Shiraz vine from the 1850s too. I digress, back to Miss Harry...48% whole bunches (probably some percentage for each of the varieties), matured in older French oak and is fresh, juicy, full of raspberries, spice, grilled meats and fine tannins. Medium bodied and a really good drink.
