About Smidge Wines
A small, hands-on winery in McLaren Vale, making wines with precision, character and a strong sense of place.
Smidge is a working winery in McLaren Vale led by winemaker Matt Wenk. We make small-batch wines with a clear focus on quality, vineyard character and the details that matter.
Everything starts with a simple idea: the wine has to be worth making. It has to feel true to the site, true to the season, and good enough to stand behind with confidence.
This is not wine made to chase noise. It is wine made carefully, with purpose, to be opened, shared and remembered.

A working winery with a hands-on approach
At Smidge, every stage matters. From vineyard to bottle, we stay close to the process with a practical, quality-led approach. Small decisions are taken seriously, because they shape how the wine looks, feels and ages.
That hands-on way of working is part of what defines Smidge. We are deliberately small, closely involved, and careful about what we release.
The result is a collection of wines that feel precise, balanced and distinctive, with a clear line back to the vineyards they come from.
Led by winemaker Matt Wenk
Smidge is led by acclaimed winemaker Matt Wenk, whose approach is shaped by experience, instinct and a long respect for site and season.
The aim is not to overwork the wine or force a house style onto every parcel. It is to understand the fruit, make thoughtful decisions, and allow each wine to speak clearly for itself.
That is why Smidge wines are known for character, depth and detail rather than excess.
What the name Smidge means
The name Smidge is a nod to the idea of topping up a glass with just a little more.
It suits the way we work. Small scale. Careful handling. Attention to detail. Nothing overblown, and nothing there without reason.
Why people choose Smidge
People usually come to Smidge for one of two reasons. They want to drink well, or they want to understand the wines a little more deeply.
Some are looking for a bottle to open now. Some are buying for the table, for a gift, or for the cellar. Others visit because they want a quieter, more personal tasting at a real working winery rather than a large commercial cellar door.
In each case, the appeal is similar: wines with integrity, made carefully, and shared in a way that feels personal rather than performative.
