The Ging is a McLaren Vale Shiraz with depth, warmth and real presence.
The 2019 vintage is youthful, layered and deeply flavoured, with dark fruit, spice and a savoury edge that gives the wine both generosity and shape.
This is a wine with richness, but also with definition. It opens with mulberry, dark cherry, black olive, licorice and dried herbs, then carries through with texture, structure and length.
If you are looking for a fuller, more expressive side of Smidge, The Ging is a very good place to begin. It brings warmth and generosity, while still holding line and seriousness.
In the glass
Mulberry, dark cherry, black olive, licorice, dried herbs and spice, with layered fruit, savoury detail and a long finish.
Why we like it
The Ging has generosity, but it also has shape. There is lush fruit at its centre, balanced by savoury tannin and enough structure to keep the wine composed.
Drink it with
Barbecued meats, slow-cooked lamb, rich pasta, mushrooms, hard cheeses, or a cooler evening that calls for something deeper and more generous.
When to open it
Drink now with a little air, or cellar confidently over the next several years.
Recent praise
95 points — The Real Review
Really youthful, deeply coloured and full of dark fruits, dried herbs, black olive, licorice and a cool graphite edge. Rich, layered and mouthfilling, with ample savoury tannin giving the wine real definition, length and seriousness.
From Matt
This wine is named in tribute to a man remembered for his stature, warmth, humour and presence. It seems fitting that The Ging carries the same sense of richness, generosity and character.
